Cool Kid’s

I Love fashion, I always have, but ever since I started having kid’s, this whole kid’s ‘fashion world’ is now my first Love! There is something so lovely, about expressing your child’s individuality though their clothes! Who wants to look like everyone else anyway? One of my fave French labels is Talc, there campaigns epitomise cool. I was really excited to see that Mash & Gravy have an amazing 40% off all brands (including Talc) until the 31st of May…and they ship worldwide!

The weather is starting to heat up here in Bath (slowly!!) and the shops are full of colour for summer ’11. According to scientific research bright colours naturally attract kid’s attention and adults associate bright colours with fun!…I’ll be getting my fix for my kid’s with one of these …..

Print

Right now I’m really into print. I love making a statement with a bold pattern. I recently  painted a large Harlequin print on the wall in my living room, I chose fairly soft colours to counter the boldness of it! I’m loving these spot dresses from Ola and Olek, they sum up the trend perfectly! I used spots to make a centre piece for my daughter Violet’s birthday party this weekend… Print Tip – Use it to make a statement but keep the rest of the outfit neutral.

Style Files: Fabrik Clothing

I have always been a sucker for good fashion! Well made items and something with a Nostalgic feel is hard to come by but Fabrik Clothing has given me hope!  Sarah Hardie is the founder of this incredible label and this is what it says on their website that describes them perfectly, “Fabrik marries that neat little girl with nanna’s handicrafts, warmth and care, a splash of color, a dash of inspiration and wraps them all together in a unique and environmentally friendly package.”

The Long and Short of It

I’m so excited about the new look of LMH and the new blog that hopfully will be done this next week.

We have some fantastic regula contributors and one is Allie Lindsey who did an editorial for Babiekins Magazine!

Allie will be doing our Mama fashion posts and also some fashion photography just for the blog! If you have any fashion for kids or moms you would like to see used and showcased on LMH please email me!

Let’s chat about hemlines shall we? I have been watching ever so closely the runway shows for spring 2011 and what has to be one of the most prevailing trends I see is the floor length skirt. I have mixed feelings on this, in theory it can be very chic. More is less? It can also go so horribly wrong if not worn correctly. Let’s be honest – I am sure most of us are not going for the look of 1840′s farmer’s daughters or worse yet the dazed and confused era of the 90′s either. The key to the long skirt? Simplicity.

Even more ridiculous is you have to wonder how practical is a floor lenght skirt? It has pro’s certainly. You dont have to shave your legs. That’s a plus. Of course then when you trip and fall because it gets caught up in your legs while running after a toddler – well then everyone can see you have not shaved your legs – so that is most certainly a negative. The more that I think about this trend however I realize that there is something so wonderfully feminine about not having to run around in a mini skirt and know that you can you may be flashing the other mom’s at the park when picking up your children’s toys.

Allie’s foolproof ways to wear the long skirt:

  1. Add a simple tank top, cute flat shoots and a vintage denim jacket for the perfect daytime look.
  2. Clogs or wedge sandals and a sheer wrap ballet inspired top with long necklaces are the perfect way to head out to dinner.
  3. A oversize sweater, a larger belt worn around your hips and a boyfriend tee make it a easy chic outfit for a playdate.

See this lovely mommy to be rocking the long skirt? Perfection!
