Millions of Colors

If you have a little girl chances are your going to love this next designer label called Millions of Colors. It’s sweet, girly and stylish! I had to ask a couple questions to the designer about Millions of Colors and had so much fun learning about this label!

Where are you located? NYC & Thailand. I travel between two studios

When did you start designing? 1997 at express

What did you want to be when you

were little? A vet- I love my dogs so much so I want to take good care of them. A fashion designer- I always loved clothes and was trying on my moms clothes.

What was the first thing you designed? Sweater- this was the first category I got to design at express. I fell in love in designing sweater and I was  mesmerized on the technical perspective on how to construct a sweater together.

When designing for kids what is one of the main things you think about. Vivid- in term of their characters, personality, life style

What do you think the next big trend will be in the childrens market? Modern take on Feminine for girls-simple silhouette with more settle details,  & play with fun colors to show off the femininity of a girl

How would you describe your line in 5 words?

1- Freedom- the collection is design for our girls to express their characters & personalities by mixing & matching their own outfits. V design to have basic needs & accessorize the outfits by adding fashioned tee, cardigan, pins, etc

For example: striped tank top with key hole in the back & styled with cupcake pins & multiple layers mesh fabric ruffle tutu

2- Playful – colors

3- Feminine- colors & details. For example using details such as ruffle on tote bags, shorts, & bow, cupcakes prints

4- Simple shape- a-line dress is very simple & easy to wear with or without legging

5- comfort: fabric & shape

Our knit fabric are made in house with natural materials as such as cotton, cotton + modal , bamboo suitable for our girls

6- Shape of each styles are very easy to wear. The back side of waist band either our shorts & skirts have elastic to inside. This allow for our girls to jump up & down while they are having fun with their friends

Whats next for you ?

For our sp/sum’12 inspiration came from Love.

Love is a very powerful word yet feminine & romantic

We use Many shapes of pink, white , grey with water color prints on fabric & dip dye effect of radiance of light to dark colors/ Also to welcome the sunny days in the summer to add in mango yellow, ocean green & French blue colors in this collection

The shape of our dress are multiple layers ruffles  in mix of different fabric

Swimming suits are in bright colors French blue & pink. Simple one piece with multiple layers ruffles

Why did you start Andrew & Audrey?
I was inspired by the Americana theme & my love with fully fashioned sweater.

When did you start Andrew & Audrey?
spring/summer’10

We love children labels! What makes fashion for kids more appealing to you then doing a line for adults?
I love when I see the joy in the kid’s faces when I put my cloth on them. It is very rewarding

What is your favorite thing in your current collection?
Boy: 1/2 striped v nk cardigan
* I love the simple cardigan shape but we made it more fun by mixing fully fashioned sweater with striped jersey fabric
Girl: reversible crew nk cardigan
* I love that it can be worn on both sides. One side is solid fully fashioned sweater & the other side is vintage anchor printed chiffon.

What inspires you?
People around me & where I travel to.

What is your personal style like?
I love neutrals colors, layers, simple cut/shape & makes which can look even more interesting by playing with different proportion. It creates a very interesting & a different look every times when u get dress by just playing with different length & width of your garments. You should try it.! It’s lots of fun when I play dress up with my nieces.

What do you like to shop for?
Vintage! I am specially in love with 1920-1950 shape. Women always look groomed & beautiful even though most of them were stay at home moms.

What was the hardest part about designing or wanting to be a designer?
Creating something from inside & be consistent

What advice could you give any mother or person who would want to start a line?
If you are passionate about what you do. You will be very successful

What a great interview with such an inspiring designer. Thank you so much for taking your time out to talk with us about your line!
