Tights + Scissors = Socks, a fashionable lesson to re-purposing your wardrobe!
Growing up my mom would often use the term “keeping up with the Joneses”. It was usually in the context of ” stop trying to ….” or ” you cant compare yourself to ….” all in a effort to keep a teenage girl grounded in reality that I cant have EVERYTHING whenever I want it.
The world of fashion has one thing that is constant, and that is change. The reality is that for the average women, it is nearly impossible to afford the ever moving cycle of fashion. So the question is – how do you take what you have, and make it into what you want ?
The answer? Be creative. Buy scissors. add a belt.
So when doing a recent fashion session in the gorgeous hills of Tuscon, AZ – that is exactly what we did. The Dress she is wearing? Also a skirt. Add belt. And tights. = new look.
How to take last year’s cotton dress and make it this years must have? Cut the tights into socks, wear with open toe shoes and add jewelry. Done.
Fashion should not be about “keeping up” it should be about ” thinking forward” , and all of us – including “The Joneses” can afford that.

Color Story, I dream of Orange …
As a photographer I live in a world of color and somehow when it comes to my clothing I seem to embrace the the relative calmness that comes with dressing in every possible shade of neutrals. Call it a mind numbingly calming effect on my creativity but usually it works for me. That is until every single year when I see spring clothing make its way from runways to actual stores. Suddenly the thought of wearing bright orange seems … well kinda awesome.
Case and point – Marc By Marc Jacobs spring collection. SWOON!!!! I have no idea if the thought of these soft silky endless parades of color take my mind away on vacation or if maybe I truly do like wearing color, but truth be told I am rather obsessed.

I have a firm belief that fashion is VERY personal, and that you should wear not only what you love but what reflects who you are. Having your own identity is liberating. So if wearing color is out of your norm, but it speaks to you? Go for it! And if you happen to see a photographer walking around in a bright orange dress … well odds are , its me :)
xoxo
